To celebrate Ferraris F1 accomplishments this year, the Ferrari Owners Club Florida
Region and The Collection organized a Celebration event for the weekend of Oct. 18-21, 2001 at Homestead International Speedway. Since many of us couldn’t attend the celebrations at Monza, we decided to have our own celebration here in Florida. And what a fantastic celebration it turned out to be!
The 4-Star Doral Golf Resort and Spa was our host hotel. The resort is a tropical paradise in the middle of Miami. Located only two miles from the turnpike, the resort is very convenient for driving to and from the race track.
The event kicked off on Friday with a drivers school headed up by Racing Hall of Famer
Terry Earwood. Terry is the best in the business and we saw the results of his instruction before the end of the
day, as his students were improving lap after lap and were soon gaining ground on the more experienced drivers. Both
Friday and Saturday their was plenty of action with the addition of the new GT Class for very interesting Race Cars! On both days we got about an hour worth’s of rain but to my surprise that didn’t slow anybody from hitting the track. It’s a sight to behold seeing Ferraris coming down the front straight of a Super Speedway with their wipers on. Very
Classic!!
Saturday night was a fantastic social event. The evening started with plenty of food and wine to going around, then the live band got the people rocking and rolling. As a special treat for the people attending we had a professional video production company come in and show the video they created from the event weekend. It was a great finish to an eventful day.
The rain filled weekend failed to dampen the spirits of the FOC at Homestead and with the Concours crowd at The
Doral Hotel. Although the threat of rain reduced the number of cars to be judged, we still had a "hearty" group representing 4 classes. Because of the inclement weather, the entries that were originally scheduled to position themselves on the putting green, where placed in the front courtyard of the hotel.
Mounted silver bowls, sponsored by The Collection, were presented to the winners and runner-ups. A larger group of Ferrari's will participate next time and better weather will also be guaranteed. After all, we do live in Florida!
Congratulations to all!
