The Ferrari Owners Club Florida Region held the first official Ferrari event of 2002 on Saturday January 12. The "Ferraris at St. Armand's Circle" Concours took place in the heart of the famous Sarasota shopping district and featured 55 registered Ferraris from all over Florida.
The event took place in perfect Florida conditions with bright, sunny skies greeting Ferrari Owners Club Florida Region members, guests and thousands of interested spectators. Another estimated 25-30 Ferraris were parked around St. Armand's Circle making this event an awesome Ferrari celebration which officially kicked off the start of the club and racing season in Florida.
Participants came from as far away as Jacksonville, Ocala and Miami with many members from the Sarasota and Tampa Bay area joining the Concours.
The Concours "Best of Show" trophy went to the husband/wife team of Skip and Roseanne Moen for their awesome red 328. The Moen's came all the way from Monteverde to attend the event and were most delighted they did!
Judging of the different categories was extremely difficult as there was little to separate the outstanding field. In several instances, the mileage of the cars was the difference between first and second place. Lunch and trophy presentations took place at the Café L Europe which was attended by 110 people.
Everyone enjoyed an outstanding lunch and the great humor of guest speaker, Alan Wilson, who just finished competing in "La Carrera Panamericana." The crowd stayed well past the finish time some meeting later that the Sarasota restaurant "Ferraris".
The first time event far exceeded the expectations of Ferrari Owners Club Florida Region Coordinator, David Bobé. " More than 55 Tifosi drove their cars to the circle before 9:30AM. It was a sight to behold. The event was called one of the most successful shows ever by the St. Armand's Circle Association", says Bobé. " I want to thank everyone who brought their cars. We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to returning next year."
St. Armand's Circle Association Executive Director, Diana Corrigan, was delighted with the turn out. "The St. Armands Circle Association was honored to host 'Ferrari's at St Armands', the first Ferrari Show on the West Coast of Florida", Ms. Corrigan states. "The show was a fabulous success and very well received by the community and the businesses on the Circle. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed viewing these magnificent machines! It was a pleasure to work with David Bobé, and the Ferrari Owners Club, and we look forward to this being an annual event, on St. Armands, for many years to come."
